Distinguished Service Awards

At the Barton Community College Foundation, we believe in celebrating the incredible individuals who go above and beyond to make a lasting impact on our college and community. Enter the Distinguished Service Award, a heartfelt tradition that honors those whose dedication, service, and generosity truly shine.

This award is reserved for individuals who have made a meaningful, long-term impact on Barton. While it’s not required to be given every year, the honor is presented when someone truly stands out as deserving of the distinction. The process to select a recipient is thoughtful and deliberate. Foundation staff review donor histories and present nominations to the Board’s administrative committee. From there, the full Foundation Board discusses the nominees and makes the final decision with a vote. It’s a thorough process because this is no ordinary honor – it’s a celebration of remarkable commitment.

To be eligible, nominees must have demonstrated an enduring dedication to Barton, whether through professional service, leadership, or sustained financial support. Volunteers who’ve served on Barton boards or committees are also eligible after a one-year pause following their term of service.

The award is typically presented during spring commencement, where the honoree is celebrated in front of an audience of students, families, and the Barton community. Along with the applause, recipients receive a keepsake gift and a news release to commemorate the moment.

The Distinguished Service Award isn’t just about recognition – it’s about celebrating those who truly embody the spirit of Barton Community College. Through their contributions, these individuals help shape the future of our college and inspire us all to aim higher.
